“Prepare Hard Drive” option results in Data Loss

Multi-booting or dual-booting of two different operating systems in a single computer system allows the user to boot the computer from either of the operating system. Furthermore, dual-boot or multi-boot enables the user (mainly the testers and programmers) to exercise the features and functionalities of both the operating system.

The system component that allows the user to perform dual booting is the known as the Boot Loader. However, the process of dual-booting involves lots of critical and important steps. A slightest mistake between these steps can result in complete data loss from the hard drive.

In such situations, the user needs to recover the lost data by using latest backup. However, if the user has not created any backup, then he needs to recover and restore the data by using advanced and effective Linux Recovery software.

Consider a practical scenario, where a user has pre-installed Linux operating system on the computer system. To multi-boot the computer system, the user installs a Windows Vista operating system with Linux operating system. While doing so, the user selects the below option:

"prepare hard drive"

When the installation process gets completed, the user finds that all the partitions and data stored in the hard drive have been erased. Furthermore, the user finds that there is no operating system installed.

Cause:

Data loss in above scenario occurs due to the selection of “prepare hard drive” command. This command deletes all previously saved data and creates a blank and new hard drive. To prevent from the above issue, the user should avoid selecting this option while preparing a dual-boot system.

Resolution:

To resolve the above problem and recover the lost data, the user needs to perform data recovery. The data recovery in the above scenario needs to be performed for the Linux data. For Data Recovery Linux, the user needs to use powerful Linux Recovery software. With the use of extensively built scanning algorithms, a Linux Data Recovery application enables the user to effectively recover and restore the lost data. Such recovery applications are easy to understand due to their interactive and intuitive user interface.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is powerful Linux Recovery software for the lost or deleted logical partitions. This software supports all the Linux file systems including Ext2, Ext3 and ReiserFS. This Linux Data Recovery application is compatible with Windows Vista, 2003, XP and 2000. It supports storage media like IDE, EIDE, ATA and SCSI.
